氧化铁黄的颜色鲜明而纯洁，从柠檬色相到橙色相变动，产品的主要型号有S920、SS930(313)、S960等。它具有良好的耐候性，着色力和遮盖力都很高，着色力与铅铬黄相近。
它主要用于建筑工业的墙面粉饰、马赛克地面与人造大理石以及水泥制品的着色，同时还可用于油墨、橡胶、塑料以及造纸等的着色。
注意：氧化铁黄不溶于碱，微溶于酸，在浓盐酸中完全溶解。热稳定性较差，加热至150-200°C时开始脱水，当温度升至270-200°C时脱水并变为氧化铁红。
