Injector Kit Issue Core Issue The QSK19 modular common rail system (MCRS) injector NX kits, Part Number 4955525NX, found to be packaged into QSK38 and QSK50 TRP injector KX kits, Part Number 4955526 KX. Confirmation All QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS engine subject to Cummins Inc. Temporary Repair Practice (TRP) document T0734. Inspection of the injector kit will reveal a discrepancy between the KX kit part number and the corresponding NX kit part number. The QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS KX and NX injector kits should both be Part Number 4955526 ( 4955526 NX and 4955526 KX). Inspection of the NX injector kit internal to the KX injector kit will reveal the NX kit part number does not correspond to the KX injector kit part number. For QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS engines, the correct kit part numbers are 4955526 NX and 4955526 KX. Also, upon inspection of the injector base components, the QSK19 MCRS injector, Part Number 4964171, and the QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS injector, Part Number 4964172, differ only by the length of the wiring harness extension as it stems from the injector body assembly. The harness extension of the QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS injector is roughly 25 mm [1 in] longer than the QSK19 MCRS injector harness length. A packaging error at the Memphis Distribution Plant (where the KX injector kits are assembled) likely caused the discrepancy. The injector base component for both the QSK19 MCRS, Part Number 4955525NX, and the QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS, Part Number 4955526 NX) kits are of the same design and assembly. The only difference between the two components is the wire extension length as it stems from the injector body assembly. With regards to performance and emissions, the injector assemblies are directly comparable. Resolution If performing the T0734 TRP on a QSK38 and QSK50 MCRS engine, first verify the parts to be installed are correct per the control parts list (CPL) and engine configuration. The TRP document also contains a table which defines the correct part numbers per engine family. If at a later date, an injector failure is diagnosed and the installed injector part number is found not to match per the CPL and engine family, this information should be noted in the product incident report (PIR) that is submitted for the failure.
