21.07.2011South & West Africa Express (SWAX) Service change
In light of the tough trading conditions on the Far East to West Africa Trade since the end of 2010, NileDutch has decided to service Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria from the Far East in a different way. The SWAX service, which is a VSA with NYK, will be terminated by the middle of August and the last sailing will be the NYK Paula voyage 355W. NYK will join K-Line, China Shipping and Hapag Lloyd and together they will launch an upgraded weekly service. NileDutch will become a slot charterer on this service via NYK.
The upgraded SWAX service will have direct calls in Shanghai, Zhoushan/Ningbo, Xiamen, Shekou, Port Kelang, Durban, Tema, Lome, Cotonou and Lagos (Tin Can). The eastbound voyage will call in Durban, Port Kelang and Singapore before returning to Shanghai. Our customers will benefit from the broader range of ports and the increased frequency. The new service starts 23 August in Shanghai.
NileDutch will withdraw three vessels from the trade and this will assist in improving the trades fundamentals. West Africa is a growing market and NileDutch have four 3,500 teu vessels on order designed specifically for the West Africa trade. Those vessels will be delivered in 2013 and we expect to return to the West Africa central range as a vessel provider before then.
